  • FAQs
    • What is the difference between Cutting and Serving Boards?
    • While a cutting board is designed for chopping food, a serving or charcuterie board is meant for presenting food and can be made from a blend of materials with a durable surface treatment.
    • Is custom made furniture expensive?
    • Custom-made furniture provides a unique, lasting piece that is often more affordable than assumed and can offer a deeper connection to the materials than mass-produced options.
    • What is the best material for a sculpture?
    • For both indoor and outdoor sculptures, metal tends to be more durable and require less maintenance, while timber offers a natural beauty that will age and change over time.
    • Is metal better than timber for furniture?
    • Our custom-made tables and furniture often blend timber or epoxy working surfaces with metal frames and legs, as metal offers a strong yet fine design that can be difficult to achieve with wood alone.
    • Why purchase our furniture?
    • We offer competitive pricing on unique custom-made furniture and sculptures and provide direct communication with the maker throughout the creation process, ensuring a smooth experience.

About Us

Furniture-Artwork-Custom-Things

The Metal Wood & Things name says it all - we specialise in handcrafting unique, bespoke pieces from metal, wood, epoxy, glass, stone, and any other materials that spark our imagination. We are a locally owned business in Murrumbateman and service the Yass Valley including Yass, Sutton, Gundaroo, Canberra and NSW.

Our commitment to one-of-a-kind design, top-quality materials, and expert craftsmanship is rare in a sea of average-looking things!

We take pride in working with clients to turn their ideas into reality. There’s almost no limit to the things we can build other than gravity and imagination!

For over three decades, Matt has honed his multi-disciplined creative skills, using various materials to create unique and striking pieces. From sculpting entirely from reclaimed materials to handcrafting a custom bed with brand-new materials, Matthew's experience and passion for creating are exceptional.

As a sculptor, Matthew's process is unique and often requires the design of custom tools or equipment to complete a work of art. Matthew leverages an expansive skill set, ranging from the intricate fine detailed work of hand engraving to the physical motion of carving with a chainsaw.

While Matthew has a preference for working with timber, many pieces incorporate a range of materials, from metal and plastic to found and discarded objects.
